Daily witnessing good

Laurie Matthews, a Christian Science Nurse here at The Leaves, was asked to share with us an experience that demonstrates her daily witnessing to God’s healing power while working at The Leaves. Laurie shares a window/slice into her practice that captures the day-to-day activities of what it is to be a Christian Science Nurse:

“Recently in my practice I’ve really been trying to be more consistent and systematic in my prayerful preparation before coming to work. My preparation doesn’t just include me, but also the Christian Science nursing floor at The Leaves and the ministry of Christian Science nursing as a whole. This work supports the healing atmosphere at The Leaves, reinforcing the expectancy of healing and paving the way to witnessing healing that is vital in our work. Healing is going on all the time! We see it in big and little ways.

Just yesterday, I arrived a little early and saw on the schedule the patient with whom I’d be working. I got the angel message to go peek in on the individual. As I opened the door, there were two Christian Science Nurses assisting the patient. They so lovingly and efficiently were addressing the situation and seamlessly turned it over to me. It was so harmonious, loving, respectful, and kind. You could feel the Christ in action, caring for the human need in a practical way that is governed by the standard for a Christian Science Nurse as laid out by our Leader in The Manual of The Mother Church.

I continued listening for God’s direction throughout the afternoon and evening. There were several occasions where I was at the right place and the right time to help my fellow man, and the same with others helping me. There was another interaction that day, that I won’t go into now, but it shined forth such clarity of love and normalcy which was inspiring to witness. It truly felt like living the statement in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, “The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another’s good” (p. 518:15-19). There so much good going on at The Leaves!”
