Protected in car accident
A few years ago, on my way home from The Leaves, I was side-swiped by a car, and in an instant, everything seemed to slow down. As the airbag deployed and my car began spinning out of control, I felt an unmistakable thoughtâalmost as if it were a voiceâspeak directly to me: âSusie, you are in the ark.â
In that moment of chaos, divine assurance came clearly. Just as Noah, his family, and the animals were preserved safely in the ark so many centuries ago, I knew I too was safeâenfolded in the very same sense of spiritual protection. Mary Baker Eddy defines the ark in the Glossary of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as:
âArk.âSafety; the idea, or reflection, of Truth, proved to be as immortal as its Principle; the understanding of Spirit, destroying belief in matterâ (Science and Health, p. 581).
Right on the heels of that powerful realization came another thought, one I had pondered many times before from my study of Christian Science:
âUndisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable facts of beingâ (Science and Health, p. 306).
That spiritual stillnessâScience âstill enthronedââwas exactly what I experienced. Even as the car spun, I felt no fear, only the profound sense that I was completely held in Godâs care.
When the car finally came to a stop, a kind bystander came to my door, opened it, and helped me out. I was entirely unscathedâphysically unharmed, calm, and deeply grateful. Neither I nor the couple who struck my car was injured.
I am profoundly thankful for the immediate spiritual clarity that met me in that moment. The ark of divine Love is not confined to a Biblical eventâit is a present and powerful reality.
